TOBW Transparency

It is envisaged that the share of renewable energies in relation to the overall electricity consumption will increase to 40 to 45 percent in 2025, 55 to 60 percent in 2035 and at least 80 percent in 2050. Wind power is set to play a key part in this development. As space for onshore wind farms is limited, the wind energy boom will increasingly shift to the sea, creating so-called offshore wind farms.

TenneT TSO GmbH (TTG) has been legally required to set up and operate grid connections for offshore wind farms since December 2006. This task is performed by the subsidiary TenneT Offshore GmbH (TOG).

Its subsidiary, TOBW, is responsible for the grid connection projects BorWin1 and BorWin2. For these two offshore grid connection projects, TenneT has entered into a partnership with the Mitsubishi Corporation. In the capacity of service provider, TenneT continues to assume responsibility for grid connection management and perform additional key operator tasks. The two grid connections combine a series of offshore wind farms in the German North Sea region with the power grid on the mainland, and boast a total capacity of 1,200 megawatts.
